Wisconsin Rep. Introduces Bill to Eliminate Collective Bargaining Rights for Cops and Firefighters

I just found this on the WFRV-TV.com website. They are reporting that Independent Rep. Bob Ziegelbauer from Manitowoc, WI has just introduced a bill that would "eliminate collective bargaining rights for public safety employees on health care and pension contributions." Further, the "bill does not require employee contributions to health care and pension funds, but would allow municipalities to mandate them."

Rep. Ziegelbauer justifies his bill by stating it "is an attempt to apply key parts of Gov. Scott Walker's controversial budget repair bill to police and firefighters without "blowing up" the entire collective bargaining process."

Of note, Ziegelbauer may call himself an Independent, but recently he's voted all Republican. He voted for Walker's budget repair bill. In a former life, Ziegelbauer was a Democrat who began to vote more and more frequently with Republicans. He finally declared himself Independent before his last election.

I can find no confirmation of this news on either Ziegelbauer's own legislative website, nor do I see the bill listed as one proposed in the Legislature. However, I suspect the story is accurate.

I think Ziegelbauer can safely remove the "Independent" affiliation from his resume.
